I love this verse out of Matthew 23 (the Message version): "Don't set people up as experts over your life, letting them tell you what to do. Save that authority for God: let HIM tell you what to do.....Do you want to stand out? Then step down. Be a servant. If you puff yourself up, you'll get the wind knocked out of you. but if you're content to simply be yourself, your life will count for plenty."

Let this be so in my life, Lord.

Good post!

We often place too much value on what others think. All that it is about though is what God thinks about us:-)

God's Grace.

Amen, Kim! Pride gets in the way of so much and gets inbetween us and God ruining a perfectly good relationship:)

A quote from Rob Bell's book Velvet Elvis: "your job is the relentless pursuit of who God made you to be." This quote resounds in my mind while reading this verse. YOU need to be YOU and I need to be me we don't need two of anybody.

A few years ago, I was on a Retreat and heard a teaching that was very meaningful to me. The teaching was about character flaws which, the teacher believed, fell into 3 categories: vanity, pride, and lust.

According to this teacher, Pride is the character flaw that leads us to put ourselves and our own desires before God.

Lust is the character flaw that leads up to put pleasures before God.

Vanity is the character flaw that leads us to put others and the opinion of others before God's opinion.

Enjoyed your Post.
